Old Vestry Minutes 1882-1904

Used by permission: Renick, V. T. Vestry Minutes 1880-1902

INTRODUCTION

At the time the minutes were recorded, there was not a difference between some of the upper and lower case letters. The only difference would be the size of the letter and the context, but the two did not always match. Therefore, in transcribing the minutes, the approach has been to use size as the primary means of distinguishing the case. This leaves inconsistencies over the course of twenty-two years, during which the same individual, Judge Hugh Nelson, recorded the minutes in a small, hard-cover ledger. The formatting of the minutes also varied from entry to entry, and here the approach has been taken to retain, as far as possible, what appeared on the hand-written page.

It will not take long for the reader to realize that there is a dull sameness in most of the records, which surely leave out virtually all of the discussions concerning the life of the parish, but there are significant items of interest to one who is interested in examining whatever information is available about Trinity Parish, Franklin County, Virginia.

This volume of the Vestry Minutes 1880-1902, plus Franklin County, VA Parish Records 1858-1998, provide a sizeable amount of material from the early period of the parish that is available at this time.

  1. That we accept his resignation with and acknowledgement of the fidelity and earnestness of his efforts to promote the growth of the Church in our midst, and with an appreciation of those qualities of his head and heart that have endeared him to us, and have fitted him more especially for the word committed to his hands while Rector of this Parish.
  2. That we regret the circumstances which have determined him to sever his connection with us, and proffer to him as he goes to his new field our heart felt wishes for the success of and our warm Sympathy with his labors to advance the Redeemers Kingdom.
  3. That these resolutions be spread upon the record, and a copy thereof be handed to the Rev. E. L. Goodwin
